Why Choose a Pole Building Horse Arena?

Finding the perfect home for your horses can sometimes be challenging. You want a place that is both practical and cozy — a place where you can take care of them as they deserve and where they feel comfortable and safe. Finding a pre-built place that has everything you and your horses need can be challenging, so, why not build your own horse arena?

Constructing pole building horse arenas is beneficial because they are:

    • Naturally illuminated: We use big, unhindered windows and skylights to make the space bright, breezy, and more inviting.
    • Well-ventilated: The big windows and doors used in pole building horse arenas make it easy to open them and let the fresh air in.
    • Easily adaptable: Pole building horse arenas are easily expandable and adaptable without requiring demolition or rebuilding.
    • Convenient: It’s easy for riders and horses to access a pole building horse arena because they have wide doors and ramps.

Steps To Save Time and Money While Constructing Your Pole Building Horse Arena

    1. Building Requirements

Speak with your local building department and request a written copy of the specific building specifications they require. Remember that standards may vary from department to department.
    2. Determining Costs

You can get a rough calculation of your project cost by assuming you’ll spend $80 to $120 per square foot for both materials and labor. Before you start your project, we advise looking for financing options to determine if you qualify. We can recommend several lenders we’ve worked with previously. Don’t forget to ask for specifics about how funds are released, whether deposits are necessary, and any other important terms.
    3. Engineered Plans

Contact one of our design specialists and outline rough drawings of the exterior dimensions and interior design you’re envisioning on paper. Our formal engineered plans are currently $1.30 per square foot of living space and 60¢ per square foot for garage or shop space. It might take up to four to six weeks for these engineered plans to be finished. This cost is included in our deposit, which represents approximately 33% of the total material cost.
    4. Finding the Right Contractors

Start doing your research to find highly qualified contractors to finish your building. Remember that pole barn builders are great at structural construction, but not so much at completing interior finish work, and similarly, finish carpenters aren’t recommended for building a pole barn. Experts in site preparation, electrical work, and plumbing will also be needed. We can recommend some pole barn contractors depending on where you are located.
    5. Permits

Submit the necessary documents, including the site plan, building plans, and truss engineering to your building department. It generally takes three to six weeks to get the permits. There could be minimal additional costs if changes to the plans are needed.
    6. Materials

Once we receive the final permits, we start working with the builder to provide a comprehensive list of materials needed to complete your project. The second deposit includes structural materials such as:

      - Poles
      - Trusses
      - Sidewall girts
      - Roof purlins
      - Roof or wall sheeting

The last deposit pays for the wall and roof material, which can be metal, wood, composition, or a combination.
    7. Building Your Pole Building Horse Arena

We can build the exterior as quickly as three to six weeks. This way, you can start coordinating specialty contractors to begin working on the interior. We’re more than happy to provide whatever you need to finish your building, whether you order interior materials from Pacific Pole Buildings or independently.

    Pole Building Horse Arena FAQs

How Much Does a Pole Barn Arena Cost?

The cost of a pole barn arena depends on various factors, including size, materials, construction method, and features, with prices generally ranging from $15 to $70 per square foot.

Why Are Pole Buildings Suitable for Horse Arenas?

Pole buildings are ideal for horse arenas because their construction allows for large, open interior spaces without the need for walls or columns. This creates a safe, unobstructed area for horses to move freely. Additionally, pole buildings are budget-friendly, customizable, and naturally ventilated and lit, all of which make them a healthy and comfortable environment for horses.

How Long Does A Horse Barn Pole Take To Build?

Building a pole barn horse arena can take up to eight weeks of construction, depending on factors such as the complexity of the arena design, the team's experience, and the site preparation. Sometimes, the entire project can last 18 to 24 weeks, including planning and obtaining permits.

How Do You Ensure the Arena is Safe and Comfortable for Horses?

Various factors are taken into account to guarantee that an arena is safe and comfortable for horses. There should be a stable foundation with good drainage, suitable and well-maintained flooring, and a secure perimeter.

Can Pole Building Arenas Accommodate Different Types of Horse Activities?

Yes, pole building arenas can accommodate various horse activities, including training, boarding, and competitions.
